MISSION:

To end dogfighting in NYC.

THE TEAM:

KELLY NADEL, CO-FOUNDER

LEE NADEL, CO-FOUNDER

LEE & KELLY have been working with pit bulls in New York City for over five years.  Through various rescue work they found that adoption and advocacy have limits, and the adversity facing pit bulls today needs to be addressed through the people on the other end of the leash.  Their combined passion for helping people and pit bulls has driven this initiative, while their unique skill set and philosophy has made Bully Project a reality.

KELLY currently works in the mental health sector for a program called TeenScreen which strives to prevent adolescent suicide and disability through early detection of mental illness.

SARA JARRETT, APDT, LEAD TRAINER

SARA fell in love with the breed after adopting her own bully, Porter in January of 2006. It wasn't until July of that year, however, after adopting Sadie, another pit mix, that she became fully committed to the rescue and rehabilitation of abused and neglected dogs of all kinds. Learning how to help Sadie heal from the emotional scars left over from her beginnings in an animal hoarder's back yard inspired Sara to leave her post as Editor-in-Chief of Dance Spirit magazine and begin a three-year apprenticeship with Who's Walking Who in NYC. She now works for the company and helps dogs and their owners get through a host of issues including fear, aggression, and separation anxiety. She also teaches group obedience and agility classes, fosters dogs and is thrilled to be a part of the Bully Project.

JUNEBUG SUNSHINE NADEL, (AKA BUDDHA BUG) RESIDENT CERTIFIED THERAPY DOG

JUNEBUG was adopted from NYC Animal Care & Control. She has a smile that reaches her ears and she LOVES to give kisses!  She is a pretty uncomplicated soul whose gentle spirit we feel lucky to have in our life. We hope she can share a little bit of her goofy antics, snuggles and sunny disposition with YOU! Junebug’s breed get’s a bad rap, but she’s here to tell you THIS pit bull mix is all love!

PORTER JARRETT, DEMONSTRATION DOG & DIRECTOR OF SNUGGLING

PORTER found Sara and her husband Ben through Mighty Mutts, a dog rescue organization in NYC that had been fostering him for four months. His past before that was not pretty — Porter had been living in a teenage boy's bedroom without his family knowing it. When they found out, they kicked him out. Now, at age 6, Porter is an obedience and tricks demo dog, excels at agility (especially the vertical jump), loves to have his belly rubbed and has a quirky taste for almonds! Oh, and he's also very handsome.
